Taisuke Edamura is a PhD candidate in the School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex, England, specializing in modern and contemporary art, theory, and visual culture. His research specialty is the work of Gerhard Richter, especially on the artist’s use of glass both as a displacement of the Renaissance tradition of painting and as a protest against the objectification of artworks. He is currently writing a dissertation that will examine the proliferation of glass in modern and contemporary art.
